The screen prints on the bottom side of a skateboard deck are graphically amazing and the urethaned wood top has strong references to an Eames leg splint and their molded plywood chair series. Using that to our advantage, Skate Bench was a study of how we could take a skateboard deck and design an object that exists in a modern home or in a skaters pad. Once we started, we really had fun playing with both sides of the skateboard deck and incorporating it with a complex, yet simple, single CNC bent rod of steel. About 80% of all skateboard decks sold have the same hole location, allowing the user to use a past deck that shows off how much it's been thrashed (think war wounds) or allowing them to pick a new deck with the graphic of choice in the skate shop. Either way, this was designed to be cool, fun and certainly have an attitude!
